RRB NTPC is a national-level recruitment examination conducted by the 21 Railway Recruitment Boards to fill non-technical posts in Indian Railways. These are not field or technical roles — NTPC covers the administrative, commercial, clerical, and operational backbone of the railway system.
The exam is conducted under a Central Employment Notice (CEN) and covers posts from Pay Level 2 all the way to Pay Level 6 under the 7th Pay Commission. There are two categories: Graduate Level posts (requiring a Bachelor’s Degree) and Under Graduate Level posts (requiring 12th pass / Class XII).

Critical: Final merit is based 100% on CBT 2 marks. CBT 1 is only used to shortlist candidates for CBT 2. Typing Test and CBAT are qualifying stages — they do not add marks to the merit. Focus maximum preparation on CBT 2.
CBT 1 is a common screening test for all NTPC posts. It shortlists candidates for CBT 2 but marks are NOT counted in the final merit. The exam has 100 MCQ questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes.

CBT 2 is the main merit-based written test conducted separately for Graduate Level and Under Graduate Level posts. CBT 2 marks carry 100% weightage in the final merit list. Duration: 90 minutes for 120 questions.

Station Master post requires an additional Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT). It is qualifying in nature — minimum 42 marks required in each battery.

Is the Typing Test mandatory for all NTPC posts?
No. The Typing Skill Test (TST) is required only for Clerk cum Typist posts — Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, and Junior Account Asst. cum Typist. Posts like Station Master, Goods Guard, Traffic Assistant, Commercial Apprentice, and Trains Clerk do not require a Typing Test.
What is CBAT and is it difficult?
