The CBT is the single written stage of RRB Group D. It carries 100% weightage in the final merit. The exam has 100 MCQ questions for 100 marks, to be completed in 90 minutes.

Can someone with a Diploma or Engineering Degree apply?
Yes. Diploma and Degree holders are fully eligible to apply. However, there is no preference or bonus marks for higher qualifications — this is a Level 1 post. You will be placed at the same level as a Class 10 or ITI holder. If you hold a Diploma or B.Tech, also consider applying for higher Railway posts like ALP or JE.
What is the difference between CBT and PET?
The CBT (Computer Based Test) is the written exam that determines your rank — it carries 100% of the final merit. The PET (Physical Efficiency Test) is qualifying only — you must pass it, but your PET performance does not affect your rank. Your final position in the merit list is decided purely by your CBT score.
How difficult is the Group D exam?
The exam is set at Class 10 level, which makes it manageable with consistent preparation. The challenge is the sheer volume of competition — crores of candidates appear each cycle. The General category cut-off has historically been around 50–67 out of 100, varying by zone and shift. With 3–4 months of focused daily study, clearing this exam is entirely achievable.
What happens during the training period?
Newly selected Group D employees undergo approximately 90–120 days of induction and on-the-job training covering their respective department — track, electrical, mechanical, S&T, or C&W. During this training period, a stipend equivalent to basic pay (Rs. 18,000) is provided.
